I posted last week, looking for a way to fix an invalid domain on remote desktop since the only bit of advice out there was don't do it wrong in the first place. I stumbled on the fix today. This applies when you set up a RDP connection, but the RDP automatically fills in the IP address as the domain name in the user login (exp 123.456.789.0\FOOBAR), causing the system to give an error. There is no obvious way to correct this, however it can be done.
1. First open to the properties on your RDP connection, and go to the general tab. Under User Name, there will be a link to "delete these creditials". Select this. Then save.
2. Next press connect. You will come to the Enter Your Creditials screen, with the User Name already populated and uneditable.
DO NOT enter a password here. Leave the password field empty.
3. You may get the error screen that says it can't verify the identity of the computer you want to connect to. If you receive this screen, press Yes and connect anyway.
4. This will bring up the "Log onto Windows Screen" with an editable User Name!!! Delete the IP address if present out of the username and replace it with the domain name. Then fill in your password and connect. You should have no problems if the info is correct.
Now, go back and save everything.
5.Close out of the RDP and return to your desktop.
6.You will probably be brought to the Creditials screen. Enter your password and check "Remember my Creditials", then press OK.
7. If you continue to get the error screen (see number 3), then go to the Advanced Tab on your RDP properties and change the Authentication Options to "Always connect, even if authentification fails". Don't forget to go back to the General tab and save the settings.
That should take care of it. It worked for me. Now when I connect my RDPs, they go straight though with lightning speed.

This was really frustrating to me.
