Help with 5 in 1 card reader
Hi. I recently bought a HP Pavillion dv6615eo laptop with a built in Rioch 5 in 1 card reader. I've inserted a regular run of the mill SD memory card into the reader and Vista tells me that it needs to install a driver in order to read it? Followed the usual options, allow Vista to find the driver or do it myself > allow Vista to search for the driver > no driver can be found > search online for solution > no solution can be found online?

Confused I contacted HP by online chat and was told to uninstall the card reader from device manager, restart and install a driver from their website sp37726.exe Ricoh 5-1 Card Reader Driver*HP Pavilion dv6615eo Notebook PC. After doing so the card reader is recognised by Vista but claims that no driver is installed and tries to install it after every restart.

So now my problems have doubled i.e the card reader needs a driver as well as the SD card.

Has anyone had the same or similar problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Peter,

can you redo HP's advice again, this time download the driver file from ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/softwar...-1/sp37726.exe and Right Click on it and select Run As Administrator,

Lets see how this goes,

regards

Steve

Will do Steve. I uninstalled both the chipset driver and the driver for the card reader yesterday after another online chat with HP. However the problem is still unresolved in that the 5 in 1 card reader shows up in device manager as a 5 in 1 card reader but when checking to see what driver its using it says no driver is installed. Bit strange. Anyway tonight I'll try to run the install with admin rights and see how it goes. I'll post back with results. Thanks again.

By the way when it does in stall the driver it installs to swsetup and says these files already exist d you want to overwrite, i do and thats that. Do I need to go into that folder and delete that driver manually before reinstalling it?

Now the driver for the card reader is installed and according windows its working fine. But yet again when I insert the SD card its wants a driver. Its driving me mad (no pun intended). Any idea why is wants a driver to read from a flash card or what driver it is?

Will do Steve. At work right now and Internet policy is pretty strict with downloading, even från MS. Will post back later.

Alright. Turned on the pc and yet again windows wants a driver for the card reader!! In device manager under info on driver it refers to C:\\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\sdbus.sys. I tried instlling the driver manually by searching in the drivers folder and let windows search in that. Once is searches it begins to install adriver an then I get an error message telling me that a driver was found bit encountered a problem during installation quoting SDA compliant SD Host Controller, yet in the same dialogue box it then goes on to say it could not find a driver?

Anyway I downloaded the package in the link you provided and started the install only to get the message that it is not applicable to my system I assume that means that this already came preinstalled with the pc if so I'm baffled as to why no driver was provided for the card reader. Any other suggestions?

Hi Peter,

this is an unusual problem indeed.

I wonder if there are any errors in the Event Viewer after the Driver installation fails. There may be a clue in there somewhere.

Did you download the Non 64 Bit version?

regards

Steve

Yep it was the 32 bit driver I tried to install. I'll check the event viewer and see what it says then get back.

Hi again Steve if your still there. I went into event viewer and checked whats been happening and there are a lot of errors just after start up reffering to -

IRQARB: ACPI BIOS har inte någon IRQ för enheten i PCI-fack 13, funktion 0. Kontakta återförsäljaren för teknisk support.

Yes I know, its in Swedish. I have no idea what it means other than it says that ACPI BIOS has no IRQ for device in PCI-slot 13, function 0, so I hope you can help. Below is the log info. Thanks
