IE7 won't open under user account
Hello, I've been having a long running problem with IE7 not wanting to open when signed in as a user with full privileges. Not exactly sure if this has always been the case since I very rarely use IE. Firefox is my default browser.

What happens is when I open IE, through the start menu or desktop shortcuts, the window will open and close immediately. I've found the only way to run the program is by right clicking and running as administrator. Then I get the message to allow or cancel iexplorer.exe, unknown publisher. It doesn't make sense that MS's actual pre-installed program is from an unknown publisher. My user account has full admin rights but unless I'm logged in as the master admin I can't run IE without the right click open.

I've dug around online and haven't found an identical issue, or a fix. One suggestion I keep seeing is to reinstall IE. But unless I'm missing something I can't find a download for IE7 for Vista, only XP. This is because it comes with Vista? I'm currently running Vista Ultimate.

It's a small but annoying issue. Advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
sasha

Hi sasha,

welcome aboard

Lets try a few things. After each item try and see if IE7 open ok.

IE7 cannot be reinstalled on Vista all right but you can get it back to where it was when it last worked...supposedly..by doing a reset of IE7

Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Advanced Tab
Click the 'Reset' button.

There is an interesting Microsoft article, it says it only applies to XP and Windows Server 2003... Internet Explorer 7 exits immediately when you start it in Windows XP or in Windows Server 2003

and another one.... Internet Explorer 7 may exit immediately when it includes an add-on and you start it in Windows XP or in Windows Server 2003

let us know how you get on,

regards

Steve

Sometimes a security setting causes Internet Explorer to close immediately after being open. It is supposed to prevent against attacks, but can shut down the browser entirely. The checkbox to deactivate is located in internet options.
