Java problems with Ultimate x64

I run amongst other apps Firefox and Myihome. Myihome is a server app for my network media player. It has to be run in Windows 2K compatability mode.

Whenever I try to connect to my PC using my media player my PC displays the error message 'Myihome has stopped working....'. Also when I close Firefox afterwards I get the same error message.

I have tracked the problem down to Java Runtime. This was confirmed when I tried to reinstall JRE latest version when it reported those 2 apps as needing to be closed during install, it reported only those 2 apps.

I have tried reinstall of the latest version without success. I will try an earlier version but dont hold out much hope.

Please try this WMP Update from Microsoft and see if it helps as it seems there may be problems with Windows Media Player ... Cumulative update for Windows Media Player 11 in Windows Vista

Thanks for the reply Steve.

Tried the MS WMP update but it didnt change the situation. I have the same setup on my 2nd PC apart from it has XP Pro and it runs without any problems. When I asked at the Myihome forum they put it down to JRE not supporting Vista x64.

Hi Chris,

thats a pity. I see indeed from Java SE 6 Supported System Configurations that JRE for Vista x64 is n/a

Can you use the 32bit JRE?
