Steve, Thanks for following me up! When I have all running well( drives mirrored & no problems running all installed programs) When I go to "shut down" monitor shuts down but computer will not, if I wait 1/2 hour or more & I restart the monitor I show no hard drives found..if I then restart & look into the BIOS all is well with RAID & all settings...then I go to CTRL-I & in the RAID I press "Configure RAID drive" 3 or 4 times (each time it says"not enough space"...then I exit & usually it will start VISTA but tell me 19 to 25 drive errors found & the mirroring process starts at 0 & takes about 5 hours & mirrors OK...Sleep mode shuts down about 50% of the time fine..& about the other 50% I loose the drives just the same.as "shut down".also I feel stupid but how do I find my origional post to see if I got any other replys?

scooterr,

sorry for not getting back to you earlier, I have been extremely busy

There seems to be a problem with Windows Vista and Intel RAID, there are more details and also a workaround for the problem on this page Intel® Matrix Storage Manager - Possible issues with Windows Vista* and Intel® RAID

It might help.

When you say
Quote:
19 to 25 drive errors
what exactly are the errors. Please post any screenshots you might have of the errors, etc,

Talk soon,

regards

Steve

Raid 1 problems with VISTA64
Steve, Thanks for your help..I followed the intel link but it links me to the "Version 7.5 of the Intel® Matrix Storage Manager" which I have already installed, and that does not solve this problem... the 19 to 25 drive errors are "verification errors" (no further explaination given) reported by the "Intel Matrix Storage Console"....there is some sort of software shutdown (100% of time) & "sleep mode" 50% of time that in the process of shutting down the mirrored drives pick up verification errors & become unmirrored....

Hi scooterr,

we will get to the bottom of this

How did you create your RAID array? Was it through the BIOS or using the Intel Matrix Storage Manager or through the F6?

scooterr,

it looks like the Intel Matrix Storage Manager may not want the RAID setup this way.

Check out this link to see how Intel want the RAID setup before installing Vista... http://support.intel.com/support/chi.../CS-021701.htm

regards

Steve

VISTA64 RAID problem
Steve, I installed the RAID setup exactly like Intel says..."Intel® Matrix Storage Manager
How do I install an operating system onto a RAID volume (F6 install method)?

In order to install an operating system onto a RAID volume, the RAID option must be enabled in the system BIOS, a RAID volume must be created, and the F6 installation method must be used to load the Intel® Matrix Storage Manager driver during operating system setup.

Note: The F6 installation method is not required for Microsoft Windows Vista*. "
Please note that F6 is not required for VISTA....do you think I should re-formatt my drives & re-install VISTA64 using F6 method...or forget VISTA64 & install VISTA32....or forget the whole thing & go back to XP Pro. that ran well before without this problem?

Hi scooterr,

I would start from the begining of the Intel Doc... http://support.intel.com/support/chi.../CS-021701.htm

at least this way you will have installed it just as they asked and then if you have further problems you can always say that you installed Vista the correct way.

I would maybe try Vista 32 for starters and see how you get on. You may have less problems with the 32 bit version,

hope this helps, good luck and tell us how you get on,

regards

Steve
