How to protect your information from your laptop if it was steal?

There are some software to protect my laptop/notebook files in case somebody will steal it ?
I want to retrieve the information or at least to delete it.
If anybody know something about this type of protection please say.

i heard only we can put password in the laptop not any thing else about it.if u have got its answer anywhere else please share with me.

What you need its a software that provides data warranty Im currently using ZenOK Online Backup, my Data has a price I need to be sure that I will recover those files in case I loose them, that's why I use Zen I need a warranty so I don't loose my money on lost files.
