Managing GP in Home Basic -How to lock desktop settings for standard users?
Since our school started buying Vista (Home Basic) workstations last year, none of my registry hacks from 98 and XP work. I use to know how to remove tabs for background, screen saver, etc. Now sidebar gadgets give the students too many distractions.
Will all the old desktops registry settings work in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\System ?
I'd like to set the desktop on one workstation (background and gadgets) and export the settings to a .REG file, set the same desktop for all standard users, then lock them out of making changes. I don't have GPEdit.msc of course, we never had our server set up in a domain (new 2008 Server arrives today, that will be my life for the next week). I'm going to have to figure out Active Desktop on the fly.
