The University of Colorado at Boulder says a computer server was recently attacked by a worm, exposing 44,998 student names and social security numbersOfficials at the College of Arts and Sciences' Academic Advising Center say the worm entered the server through vulnerability in its anti-virus software. CU-Boulder IT security investigators do not believe the hacker who launched the worm was seeking personal data, but trying to gain access to other computers both on and off the campus.Bobby Schnabel, CU-Boulder vice provost for technology says, "Through a combination of human and technical errors, these personal data were exposed, although we have no evidence that that they were extracted."
