external networking drive for 64-bit Vista?
We recently got an HP desktop and HP laptop, both of which came with Windows Vista 64-bit operating systems. We also got a Western Digital My Book World Edition external drive for networking and file sharing, and even though it says it is compatible with Windows Vista, it apparently only works with the 32-bit version. Although some have said that it will work if it's plugged directly into the computer, we are trying to network computers and printers and external drives and so it is plugged into our wireless router and so we need to install the WD Anywhere Access software, and that's where the incompatibility comes in. I'm having trouble finding an external hard drive for networking and file sharing that is compatible with the 64-bit version. Does anyone have any suggestions? We're not sufficiently capable of building our own, so we're looking for an off-the-shelf drive. I've seen the Windows Home Server and I'm assuming it works with the 64-bit version, but it's nearly four times as expensive as the My Book one--we're looking for something around $200, not $800. Or perhaps there's different software we could use?
Thanks for your suggestions!
