I posted this in the 'Introduce yourselves' forum which I thick was wrong so I am trying again.


I have spent over 5 days trying to sort out my problem, and I thought that maybe some else has a similar problem.

I have a HP Pavilion [COLOR=blue ! important][COLOR=blue ! important]laptop[/color][/color] running Vista Home premium, which I purchased last week. The network drives are on a [COLOR=blue ! important][COLOR=blue ! important]Dell[/color][/color] with XP pro SP2. I have a Belkin modem/router.

My problem is my mapped network drives will not let me access after about 2 hours. This makes no difference whether the machine is idle or in constant use.
The only way is to reboot the [COLOR=blue ! important][COLOR=blue ! important]computer[/color][/color] & that is difficult as I have to power down with the power button held in. I can still access the internet
The Dell can still enter the laptop & read files.
I thought I found a soloution at MS KB933872 which gave a work aroud of 'ipconfig /renew' , but this did not help. I have tried turning off Zonealarm.
I have run [COLOR=blue ! important][COLOR=blue ! important]Spybot[/color][/color]. I updated the network card driver.
Has anyone any ideas please?

I am answering my own thread. I have found the answer to my problem, after seaching for about 5 days.
The problem is 'net server config', which has to be disabled. In XP you can do it at the command prompt, but with Vista I could only do in the registry.
With regedit, you go to:
Hkey_localmachine\system\currentcontrolset\service s\lanmanserver\parameters
right click on autodisconnect and insert ffffffff (8) enter. result should be
0xffffffff
Take care playing with the registry!!!!
This worked for me and I hope it may help someone else with the same problem.
