Vista cannot read/detect thumb drive, but XP can
I am running Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2 on my desktop HP Pavilion, and Win XP on my Fujitsu Lifebook notebook.
Lately, I am having problems getting the Vista desktop to detect my thumb drives. Whe I first bought the thumb drives (Toshiba 4gb, 8gb, Imation 4gb), they worked fine ie Vista detected them. After a few months, the Vista desktop failed to detect the thumb drive (inserted in one of the USB 2.0 ports). I have switched USB ports around but still the problem persists.
Specifically, when I clicked on My Computer, the icon Removable Disk is there. But when I click on it, a message pops up saying "Please insert a disk into Removable Disk". I have inserted/reinserted the thumb drives but still the same message.
However, the Win XP notebook detected the thumb drive without any problems.
Please help. Thanks
