Reading and writing to a ext3 USB HD

Hi all,

I have two external USB harddrives which I have used for backups on various systems I have used in the past. They are both formatted to the ext3 file system and I want to be at least able to read and preferably also able to write to them. Is there any way to do this?

At the moment when I plug any of the devices in they mount and I am able to unmount them from the taskbar but they do not appear within the filesystem.

Any pointers?
