Built-in microphone not working

Ever since I installed a new hard drive (and reinstalled Vista Home Basic), the microphone on my Dell Inspiron 1521 computer hasn't been working. The only relevant icon in the Control Panel is "Sound" which seems to be only about the soudns the computer makes. Any thoughts? Is there a driver that I need to download? Thanks.n
