Note that amongst several updates from Microsoft Updates website
this is the one that's obstreperous... One update went fine
prior, and one went fine after; but, this won't go either from
the website or from the direct download. Also note that the error
message given for its failure to install is inappropriate for the
situation; thus the KB [below] keyed to the error message [below]
is not responsive. We can set aside that I did anything radical
like install/uninstall/system-failures/malware-infections, etc.,
due to the fact that Microsoft Update is working just fine. The
install issue is focused on this one release at this particular
time... Please read below for the details of the deviation.
IE8 Compatibility View List KB982632
BTW, it's Microsoft Windows XP MCE (2005) SP3 with all updates
successfully completed since 2005 until now, and this particular
instance; ALL other operations are normal and stable; been NO
anomolies or system changes... did NOT reformat, repartition;
did run AV scans; Trojan scans; and a Securina scan to ensure
everything is current and correct. It is that!
Earlier yesterday, checked Microsoft Updates, bon per adventure.
2 were available :
Update for Root Certificates [May 2010] (KB931125)
D/L'ed and installed OK...
Update for Internet Explorer 8 Compatibility View List for Windows XP
(KB982632)
Installation Failure ; Error Code: 0x8007F0DA
Already followed
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958050 - no joy.
After that, got a SysTray Notify, and updated Silverlight...
(This should prompt the reader to assimilate the fact that Windows
Update routine is up and running on the machine; short any
references - or hints to the contrary...)
Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB982926) successful and fast,
but the above KB982632 failed yet again... It was listed under
the History tab as such, twice now...
1) ALL the other updates install just fine and are
verifiable/researchable via the Microsoft Update History tab; and,
2) Using the
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958050 provided link,
all that stuff is A-OK.
IE8 has been installed since it came out of the Microsoft oven...
in fact, the previous Update for Internet Explorer 8 Compatibility
View List for Windows XP (KB980302) [Download size: 495 KB , less
than 1 minute] went just fine 11:03 AM 3/30/2010.
Any *constructive* ideas relating to issue[s] as stated?
TIA.
