Restart to finish installing updates repeating
Hi! I have a HP Pavilion notebook PC with Windows 7 Home Premium. For the
last 2 months (approximately) I have been getting a message several times a
day and every time I start up my laptop that the computer must 'Restart to
finish installing updates' or something similar to that. I have the choice
to restart or to cancel. I have tried restarting dozens of times and each
time the same message greets me when the computer reboots so I have chosen to
just click on cancel. I have consulted with HP technical support about this
and they ran a complete diagnostic evaluation of my computer and said that
the problem was definitely on the Microsoft end of things. I really want to
figure this out but don't want to have to pay for technical support again. I
have tried several system restores and the problem continues. Please help
me! Thank you very much!

RE: Restart to finish installing updates repeating
Hi Karen,

Repost

Which is the update(s) failing to install?
-=-

Further information required: Try this

How to view the Update log in Windows

Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type %windir%\windowsupdate.log
and then click OK.

Scroll down towards the bottom for the latest entries to locate
the error code(s) associated with the latest failed attempt to
download/install.

Start at the bottom and work your way up to a section that shows an ERROR,
WARNING, or FATAL.

If appropriate copy and paste the error codes into the thread so
someone may be able to assist you.

On the other hand, you may be able to find the error code and other
suggestions by searching the Newsgroup.

Also check Windows folder for file called KB******.log

(****** = number of update ie KB896688) and post the contents of
the failed update.

This may provide further clues as to why the update failed.
