Cannot open .docx files after updates

I have Word 2003. I installed Updates KB977724, KB978380, and KB978474 today
and now cannot open .docx files.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the Compatibility Pack for Word 2007 but still
cannot open .docx files.

How can I uninstall the updates?

Same way you uninstalled the Compatibility Pack for Office...

BTW - what operating system do you have?

Running Word 2002 on a Vista machine here and there are no obvious
problems working with .docx files after the updates. (I don't have
KB978474 (Excel 2003) but rather KB978471 (Excel 2002) of course.)

The updates do not show up under Remove Programs, hence my question.

I am running Windows 2000.

I see that this is a common problem. Does anyone have a solution? Thanks.
