My PC (especially IE8) has slowed to a snails pace

Updates KB976662,979306,979264,975929,979099 made a cheetah into a tired snail
After a normal automatic update my PC now timesout regularly in IE8

Vista SP1; Vista 64-bit SP2; Win7; Win7 64-bit) when posting in a forum or

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the
computer (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?

Does the behavior persist if you start IE in No Add-ons mode?

Does the behavior persist if you Reset IE Advanced settings (RIES)?

Does the behavior persist if you uninstall one or more of the five updates?
