DVD Decoder
Hi all,let's see if anyone can help me,
I'm on a Packard Bell laptop(EasyNote MH36),running XP Home Edition(was
Vista,but it was giving me more problems than I wanted,so 'downgraded' it).
The laptop ran correctly,up until about 2/3 weeks back,then when i wanted to
play DVD's,it only gave me sound,no visual(ok,if i was only playing music),I
can't remember if I downloaded,or deleted any programs at the time,so it's a
mystery.
I've seen a 'Thread',suggesting the 'regedit' solution,but,after getting to
the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE......etc,there was NO UpperFilters listed,nor
LowerFilters??.
Any other Solutions out there??
Thanks in advance

Re: DVD Decoder
I've had that problem before. Then I found the attached .reg file. Use it
at your own risk. If you're not happy about opening attachments (and quite
rightly so) it contains the following text:-
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
;Fixes issues with cdrom drives not working properly
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"UpperFilters"=-
"LowerFilters"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Cl ass\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"UpperFilters"=-
"LowerFilters"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Control\Cl ass\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"UpperFilters"=-
"LowerFilters"=-
Copy and paste that into Notepad and then Click File and select "Save
As...". In the "Save as type:" box select "All Files", name your file
anything you like, so long as it ends with ".reg" (without the quotes), then
click the Save button. This will give you a file the same as the one that's
attached. Double-click it to remove all traces of Upper and Lower filters
from the Registry.
If that still doesn't work then you have a different problem; hopefully
someone else can chime in here.

Re: DVD Decoder
How does your question pertain to Windows Update functionality?
