Security Update for Windows Vista (KB973540)

I tryed to install this update but it's no good. fails every time. I tryed
troubleshoot
still no good. geting error 80070643. tryed office source eng (delayed
start) no good. Please help.

I've _exactly_ the same problem (and Google says I'm not alone :-)). I tried all the suggested workarounds (and even more), without success.

My guess is that there is a problem with WMP11, which is NOT uninstallable/re-installable under Vista, AFAIK.

Moreover, with the KB973540 installation pending, SP2 installation fails shortly after the reboot, when Vista tries to substitute/install Wmpplayer-ppdlic.xrm-ms.

I've an Acer Aspire M5100, with Avira free as antivirus.

Any suggestions?
