VISTA SP2 WILL NOT INSTALL
I have VISTA with SP1 running ok - no problem installing updates -
until now.
Twice I have tried to install SP2 with the same results, under
different circumstances.
The first time I left everything running.
The second time, I turned off all security software, email software,
weather software, etc.
Both times I got the same result: it looked like the install was going
ok then got the following message:
"Service pack did not install. Reverting changes. Do not turn
off your computer."
What's with this?

Re: VISTA SP2 WILL NOT INSTALL
How to troubleshoot Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 service pack
installation issues
[Errors 0x80070002; 0x8007000D; 0x80073712; 0x800B0100; & 0x8024200D]
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947366
If you're having problems installing SP2 *via Windows Update*, post about
your problem here instead:
http://social.answers.microsoft.com/...stawu/threads/
Post any other Vista SP2-related questions in a Vista-specific newsgroup
(e.g., Vista General) or either of these 2 forums:
http://www.answers.microsoft.com/windows;
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...stasp/threads/
Installation Tips:
.. Your computer will restart several times during the installation process:
Make certain you've saved your work and closed all open applications before
beginning the install.
.. Disable (1) your anti-virus application, (2) any real-time system
protections afforded by any anti-spyware applications (except Defender), &
(3) your third-party firewall (if any) and then (4) enable the Windows
Firewall before installing or uninstalling Vista SP2.
.. The installation process can take an hour or more: If you're installing
SP2 on a portable computer, make sure that you plug-in the power cord and
have the battery inserted into its bay.
.. Vista SP1 is a prerequisite for installing SP2. If you use Windows Update
or the Automatic Update feature in Windows Vista, you will not be offered
the option to install SP2 until you first install SP1.

RE: VISTA SP2 WILL NOT INSTALL
Lols i had the same problem too. The best thing is to wait for microsoft to
fix the problem. At the mean time, stick to service pack 1.

What problem?

Since neither of you have provided any symptom details
why would there be a fix for them?

Ok. Provided the rest of your maintenance is up to date.

Re: VISTA SP2 WILL NOT INSTALL
Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for
Windows Vista, but only for Service Pack 2 (SP2). This support for Windows
Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2) is valid until November 26, 2009. Availability of
chat or e-mail support differs depending on your geographic location. For
customers residing in North America, chat and e-mail support is available.
Go to http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...4&gprid=582034
& select appropriate category (e.g., Installation).

It is FIXED!!! Thank you Microsoft! I have been working with them
for several weeks and we finally got a fix!
Check and see if KB933246 is installed on your computer, if it is
remove it.
If you don't want to remove it, or if it is not installed, as was my
case, inport the following registry key:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\WINEVT
\Publishers\{51bd93ee-1739-4261-b8e8-67970423a2a0}]

After I imported the key I booted with only the Microsoft services
running and ran the KB947821.
I installed both SP2 and IE8!
I sincerely hope this works for the rest of you. We've all been
suffering through this long enough.
And once again, thank you Microsoft and in particular satyendra!

Hi all,
I've been getting this "....did not install. Reverting changes....."
with several machines recently and, in particular, SP2 & IE8. I followed
the above 'fix' to the letter (after correcting the CSVs -- there are
spaces where there shouldn't be, if you look); still the same problem.
I'll be watching here and reading MS forums with interest.....
