Why all the Spam in this Newsgroup?
All of a sudden, two thirds of all new messages are either spam or
cmsgs that purport to be stopping spam? This has been happening for
the past several days..

Spam happens.

Essentially - someone probably found a new toy or something and tried it
out.

Try accessing this an other MS newsgroups via the free MS newsserver instead
of the one you're using now:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof....windowsupdate

Definitely a good option if they're only connecting to the microsoft.*
newsgroups. If they were accessing alt.* or other Usenet groups though, they may
want to check some third-party Usenet services to see if they may cover those
better.

I've been using Newsguy for several years now and they offer a number of
affordable options for high volume and low volume newsgroups activity. They even
have a trial account if you want to evaluate them. Spam is a little tough to
outrun with any provider, so they may be comfortable enough with what they're
using.

Yes there are. Perhaps not as many as other group but I've deleted several
junks in windows update group too.

There's 1 posted on 5/21/2009 4:02 AM with a subject line: Salton QM2R Santa
Fe 900-watt quesadilla maker. I just deleted that one from my OExpress
without opening it.
