Possible Windows Vista Problem

Hello,

I'm not sure where to post this but I need some help.
I have Windows Vista on my desktop computer and just today, while I was
playing a computer game, my computer just restarted itself (I THINK it did
this because while I was playing, Java was updating in the background).
However, after restarting, it didn't go straight to my password-protected
desktop - instead, it just kept restarting itself in the "black screen" mode
(not sure what to call it). It did this a couple of times until it finally
just didn't go anywhere at all - my hard drive indicates it is turned on
though because of the lights but the monitor doesn't show anything - it's
completely black. I unplugged everything and plugged it back in but my
monitor is still just showing a completely black screen.
Could the problem be the hard drive or monitor? Could it possibly be that
the hard drive is just dusty and/or overheated? Or is it Windows related?
