Office 2007 Vista cannot install upgrades

Vista Ultimate with latest upgrades. Office 2007 has SP1, but will
not allow further upgrades. Error "no detection". Tries all fixes,
so far from Microsoft. Suggestions? If I remove/reinstall Office
2007, will data files be maintained?

They should but as a precaution, I would definitely backup first.
