vista updates
have browsed the site and read many nightmares about updates and mines no different. although i will also have a pop at ms support.
having upgraded form xp pro sp3 to vista ultimate i have had a nightmare. i know many will bitch about a clean install rather than an upgrade but lets just say its not a possibilty as somethings i can't get back. so first issue was a process called dvpapi.exe its linked to virgin medias' pcguard which since upgrading to vista i cannot uninstall as when trying i am warned will only run with ce, 2k or pro. so used autorun program to halt all the reg commands to do with pcguard.
next vista sp1. auto update will not install and comes up with the usual error messages. have tried auto and have tried standalone many times. have been in contact with support and have been instructed to remove a whole load of programs that might affect the install. have spent about 5 hours across numerous calls to support but to no avail. have sent system data to them and have exhausted every avenue.
recently noticed that no autoupdates would install i assume this was to do with not running sp1. so tried again. did some searching and installed the download from ms titled system download readiness tool. this as i find did install but still no joy installing standalone sp1 and it no longer shows on auto.
today i tried to install 3 updates listed on auto and failed (now totalling 47 failed) and when clicking check for updates it now tells me that update software needs to update first and this also fails.....aaarrrggghhh!!!
have no faith in calling support yet again. any help would be appreciated.
cheers
