Internet explorer 8

I have xp sp 3 installed IE 7 working. downloaded update and IE 8 would not
work, after awhile I got error message "null" not found, but its in
windows\system 32\drivers.
reinstalled IE 7 working OK,downloaded IE 8 and installed under "Safe Mode"
but still has same problem. Back to IE 7 again working OK
