Sidebar problems after IE8 install

Vista HP

Installed Auto updates this morning on both desktop and laptop plus IE8
install on the desktop - and Windows Sidebar gadgets are not working on that
machine but still OK on the laptop:

Weather - unable to change to local city - stuck on Redmond.

Clock - is not correct time - can't get second hand to work.

Have detached and restarted a few times to no avail.

Any ideas
