Everyone on this posting is referring to Vista. I'm getting this error on
Windows Server 2008. If there is already a posting I haven't found it yet.

I have asked Vista users before...

<cmd_output OS="XPsp3">
E:\>set /a c = 0x3712
14098
E:\>net helpmsg %c%
14098 is not a valid Windows network message number.

</cmd_output>

Q: Do you get a defined error message if you enter (in a cmd window,
aka Command Prompt window):

net helpmsg 14098

Otherwise, try a web search?...

Hmm... which update are you getting this symptom with--a .NET update?

You can probably make good use of helpful Vista incidents but just to
respond to your challenge...

(Live Search for
14098 update "error code" (MSFT OR MVP) "server 2008"
- first hit of 12
)

See answer from Aaron Stebner?

RE: Windows Server 2008 80073712
I have just started having this problem with my SBS 2008 Premium Server.

In processes svchost runs at ~50%.

I have narrowed down the cause to the Windows Update service. If I disable
the service the CPU problem is fixed however the I cannot receive Windows
Updates.

Is there a fix for this?
