Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5

i have treid several different ways to download this update. after it
initalizes,it opens looks like it is installing the update. but it just sits
there for several minutes
& then stays this file was not installed. i have tried to find the file &
uninstall it & nothing works. i can download & install any of the other
updates.
what should i do?

Start by checking which versions of .NET
are installed on your computer. You can do this two
ways, look at the versions displayed in the Add/Remove
programs list or read the following article:

Write the versions on a piece of paper!

Next you want to uninstall any version of .NET 2.0 and
higher installed on your computer.
(if version 1.0 or 1.1 is installed I'm almost certain there is no need to
un-install these as long a they are not corrupted).

Next you are going to use an additional "Clean Up" tool
"Automated cleanup tool to remove the
..NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5"
This tool has a pull down list so only pick the versions
you un-installed from the list!

Now try re-installing .NET 3.5 SP1 by downloading and running the
installer:

Last install this update:
"Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for Windows XP x86, and Windows
Server 2003 x86"
