Error 80070424 Windows cant update

I am running Vista 64 bit and around Jan 20th this year it stopped being able
to update. I have read all I can find on various forums and tried all the
suggestions made but nothing works. Some of the things tried were to update
the wua, updating bits, reloading the update dll's, which some would update
and some wouldn't. Just as a side question, is it true that Microsoft have
withdrawn support for 64 bit technology.
Anyway I hope some one can come up with a solution to this as I don't really
want to have to reinstall the OS.

If you've read and tried everything already, what can we offer here?

As it's been a few weeks since I worked on this I had hoped there might be
new light shed.
