Security Update KB956572 wants to be installed continuously...

On Windows Xp Pro SP3:

I visited http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956572 as suggested elsewhere
finding "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\HotFix\KB956572" under heading "New Installations" and
verified this key within my registry. Everything's ok, but "Security
Update KB956572" continuously wants to be installed!

I also did "Security Update for Windows XP (KB952004)"; no success! The
"Security Update KB956572" continuously wants to be installed though!

I had the same problem. I called Microsoft at 1-866-PCSAFETY. It's a free
service for security related updates. I told them the KB number, the
problem, and they took over my PC and fixed it. They made several changes
and about 3 re-boots, but I am no longer offered the update.

According to the Security Bulletin:

This is the registry subkey one needs to check:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Wind ows XP\SP4\KB956572

There is also a subkey of KB956572 called Filelist, that shows all the
files, file versions, and locations of same that were included in the
update.

To troubleshoot why KB956572 is not installing properly, open the
KB956572.log located in WINDOWS and post it's content.
Same for KB952004 as both updates are aimed at mitigating the same 4
publicly disclosed vulnerabilities that are shown in the Security bulletin:

Windows MSDTC Service Isolation Vulnerability - CVE-2008-1436

Windows WMI Service Isolation Vulnerability - CVE-2009-0078

Windows RPCSS Service Isolation Vulnerability - CVE-2009-0079
