Automatic updates never download, windows xp sp3
I don't get automatic updates anymore. I checked the Windows update.log
file and I have pasted from the most recent attempt to get updates.

When I reviewed what updates I have received, they mostly stopped working
4 or 5 months ago. I'm not sure what triggered the problem. I also
noted that many critical updates from past months were not installed and
now automatic updates doesn't seem to think they are need any longer.

Any suggestions are greatly appricated.

Re: Automatic updates never download, windows xp sp3
First, let's deal the those "Regulation" errors. Absent any serious
numerical Errors in your windowsupdate.log, you're seeing a delay caused by
excessive demand on the servers ("Update is not allowed to download due to
regulation"). It can take up to 7 days or more (sometimes much more) for
all Automatic Update users to get new updates when so many have been
released on the second Tuesday of a given month. See
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910340

Now, how have you determined that updates "mostly stopped working 4 or 5
months ago"?

Can you access http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com? If so, does the Update
History section here show that no updates have installed (or some updates
failed to install) in the past 4 or 5 months? Can you select the CUSTOM
option at Windows Update and then successfully scan for and install updates?

Re: Automatic updates never download, windows xp sp3
Thank you for the quick response.

I reviewed the uninstall folders in my Windows folder and compared it to
the listing of critical updates listed on the Microsoft site in the
administrator download section.

I tracked back to the November updates before I found uninstall folders
that matched the critical security updates listed for my product.

Today I manually downloaded approximately 12 past updates from the
administrator site and installed them. This is a tedious process and it
would be nice to get back to the automatic updates working.

I checked other computers at work and most of them are auto updating, but I
found a couple of others that fail repeatedly due to the regulation error.

I was hoping if I found a solution it would apply to more then just my
computer.

Please do you best to quote the entire post to which you're replying, Chris.
Thanks.

I didn't mention or ask about "uninstall folders," Chris, I asked about the
Update History section at Windows Update website. Repost:

What have you found there? Any "failed installs" in the past 4 or 5 months,
or...?

The fact that you were able to download/install 12 updates manually isn't
unusual considering how many updates were released this week and assuming
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com takes you to Microsoft Update website
(offers updates for Windows, Office, and some Windows Live applications).

Don't concern yourself over "Regulation" issues (on any machine) as long as
Automatic Updates eventually (i.e., within a week or so) downloads/installs
the updates. See my previous reply as well as
