Error code 0x66A

I keep getting an update for Service pack 1 and after updating it says it was
unsuccessful. Is this update crucial?

I had this error when trying to install Visual Studio 2005 SP1 onto XP Pro
SP3. I have not got this product installed but I do have the Express
version. The SP1 of the VS Express did install.

Is the VS SP1 a required update in this setup?

I also have all the latest versions of the MS .NET Framework installed. Do
I need them all or just 3.5 SP1?

Windows XP Home Edition Version 5.1 (Build
2600.xpsp_sp3_qdr.090206-123 :Service Pack 3)
when trying to install .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 it fails and I get
an unsuccessful try.

1. Before doing anything else, write down the .NET Framework versions which
are already installed:

How to determine which versions of the .NET Framework are installed and
whether service packs have been applied

2. Now see Resolution Method 2 in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100
(ignore the title). After running the appropriate/needed tool, (re)install
all .NET Framework versions manually using the download links on the page.
