By "didn't work" do you mean that it generated an error message, or just that it
failed to fix the problem?

What antivirus, firewall, etc., software are you using?

Harry.

Re: Windows Update fails to install updates
Hi Harry

I get the same error as before. Windows Update looked for updates and found
21. I pressed "Install Updates", Windows asked for permission, I pressed
"continue" and then Windows Update immediately said "Some Updates Were Not
Installed" and 21 updates failed. Once again it said "Code 8007002 Windows
Update encountered an unknown error".

I have McAfee security centre running with the Personal Wirewall, and
Windows Firewall. (Actually WF was off, but I've turned it on now!)

Have you tried right-clicking Windows Update from the All Programs
list to Run as Administrator? It probably won't help but you should
eliminate that as possibility.

Try SFC /SCANNOW
