microsoft.NETframework service pack 3.5 family update

my service pack 3.5 update downloads but when it tries to install it, the
installation fails. I've read on websites including this one to unistall and
reinstall, but with all this "conficker" crap, I don't want to take any
chances not having any service packs when the virus hits. Any suggestions?

Without further info - all I can suggest -
When you try to install an update for the .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0,
or 3.5, you may receive Windows Update error code "0x643" or Windows
Installer error code "1603"
