Windows Update Won't Return Results

I checked for updates and updated as normal. I check again just in case their
is an extra update that I may have missed. I did the same thing today and
then afterwards downloaded IE8, and since then Windows Update won't even
return anything, I let the update go for well over 7 hours, hoping it would
work and it still won't return anything. Normally if there are no updates it
just says like 'You are currently up to date' or "There are no new updates
available". But this just stays there with the bar moving across saying
'Checking for updates'. Any Advice on this matter?

Try accessing Windows Update in Compatibility Mode.
