Error Number 0xC80003FB

Iam running a PC with Windows 2000 Server, this a recently re-installed
machine.
My problem is that I can not use Windows Update with out getting the above
error.
I have plenty of free HDD space, have emptied & update data stores all with
no success.

Any sugestions please?

Neil,

By recently installed do you mean a format and reinstall or a repair
install of Win2K ?

And, please post what " have emptied & update data stores " means.
Are you referring to deleting the contents of the DataStore subfolder of
SoftwareDistribution and/or renamed/deleted Software Distribution ?

Is the latest version of the Windows Update Agent installed ?
Please try another attempt at a manual update.
If/when it fails, close Internet Explorer.
Go to Start > Run > type in the below and then click OK or press Enter

%windir%\windowsupdate.log

Scroll all the way to the bottom of the log for the most recent entries.
Copy and paste at least the last 50 or so lines into your reply, please.

firewall is being used ? ***

I think it was actually a repair installation.
Data stores does mean DataStore in SoftwareDistribution
Yes latest version of Windows Update Agent is installed.
Antivirus is currently disabled.
Tried manual update again with the following log entries.

Neil ... is a 3rd party firewall installed ? If not, then there's a
strong likelihood that the system is infected already as error
0x80070002 means 'The system cannot find the file specified.'
In this case, it's the service ID for the Automatic Update service -

There may be an add-on in IE that is causing updating to fail. Not sure
whether the add-on is malware related or not, but it certainly appears
to be.

Which AV is installed and have you scanned the system lately with it ?
