Windows Update Error

Recently getting a notice that windows update is "turned off". I open
security center and can not turn it back on. I open the menu for the auto
updates and it show that it is actually on. I try to update via the web site
and it says error 0x80070422 "The site cannot continue bcs. one or more of
these Windows services is not running". I follow instructions with the
services.msc and can't get the auto updates service to "start". Firewall
off. All caches cleaned.

this all started after I recently accidently deleted all my emails. (I was
trying to save them to a removable usb storage by copying the .dbx files but
accidently deleted them. Was able to recover with some recovery software but
now can't read the .dbx files anyway. Any help with this would be nice also.
Also, can't convet the .dbx files to .eml for Vista which is on the other
computer I wanted to trasfer the emails to.

The necessary service "Automatic Updates" (WUAUSERV) is not started or is
unavailable. Error 0x80070422

Error message when you try to install updates by using the Windows Update

Other considerations:-

System may be infected with malware "Vundo" and/or friends

Service does not start and displays "Error 1058"

You cannot manually start the Automatic Updates service and you receive an
"Error 1058" error message on a computer that is running Windows XP or
