WSUS new install Big Red X

I just installed WSUS on my Windows 2003 R2 Standard DC server. I have SQL
2000 Standard also on the server.
Database was created no problems during the install.

When I bring up the admin web site it shows this error

RED X
One or more Update Service components could not be contacted. Check your
server status and ensure that the Windows Server Update Service is running.
Non-running services: SelfUpdate

I double checked my setup using KB920659

Any ideas or suggestions
