Installing updates

I own a Gateway laptop with Windows Vista on it, before this laptop worked
fine but now I can't connect to any networks or the internet due to a problem
with my network adapter. I diagnosed why I could not connect to any network
and this came up, 8024001F. Beside it says I need to be connected to the
Internet to check f"Realtek RTL8187B Wireless 802.11g 54 Mbps USB 2.0 Network
Adapter" is experiencing driver or hardware related issues." After reading
this I click on it for more information then click the link Install Windows
updates. After that I click the link that says To install drivers and other
optional updates, then I click the link Click to open Windows Update, I then
click check for updates and get an error Code or updates. I would love to do
that but I am not connected and I can't figure out how to. Please can anyone
help me?

I own a Toshiba laptop with Vista on it. Every time I install the Realtek
RTL8187B update I am unable to connect to my wireless network, so I uninstall
it and everything works fine again. Obviously there is something wrong with
this update, so now every time it comes up I just hide it.

Get driver updates from Toshiba or Realtek, *not* Windows Update.
