error code 80070005-i'm not able to install ANY updates on my comp

i got this computer 11-23-08. i have been trying just about every other day
for a month to get updates and have only been able to download 20. i have
this huge list of failed updates and they all have the same error code as far
as i can tell. there are way too many for me to check all of them but the
ones i have clicked on all have the 80070005 error code. PLEASE HELP. i
havent tried to call anybody yet & im not sure who i should call microsoft or
hp. if somebody could tell me anything it would be a HUGE help. THANK YOU!!

0x80070005 is an access denied error.

Check to make sure that your antivirus isn't blocking WU. Make sure that
you're running as an Administrator.

Another thing you can try is resetting the security settings back to the
defaults:

Otherwise please provide details of what OS you're using including service
pack level.
