Can't download updates

As I said I can't download my updates. I have the Vista Home premium
edition, I had the error 80004002, and after downloading windows update
agent at least 20 times and I've entering the dll's in both notepad and
command prompt and nothing has seemed to let me download my updates,
however; I did manage to get rid the error, but I still cannot download
my updates. Anyone have a clue what I can do?

Okay, you said you registered the files but did you download and install the
WU agent?
