Hi Fred,
You don't need to Service Pack 3, but if the Computer is wireless and
you use WPA2 Only! Encryption and want to use Windows to manage the Adapter
then yes, you need Service Pack 3.
Here it the link for Service Pack 3. Make sure all .Net Framework
Versions are installed before installing Service Pack 3, because .Net
Framework Version 3.0 will not install in with Service Pack 3 installed.

Download the Service Pack 3 and save it in your Briefcase folder on the
Desktop. You can also burn it to a CD-R for safety and installing at a later
time, too.
Start Run and type in msconfig. Click Ok.
Click Services Check Hide All Microsoft Services. Then click Disable
All. Click Startup. Click Disable All. Click Apply. Click Ok or Close. Click
Restart.
On Reboot. Go back to msconfig. Dot Normal Startup. Click Apply. Click
OK or Close. Click Exit without Restarting.
Open Briefcase Folder. Click on Downloaded Service Pack 3, unless you
burned it to a CD-R, and click on it to run it. Follow Onscreen
instructions. When done, click Finish to Reboot.
