Windows Updates not downloading

I have Windows XP SP3 and am using a 3G modem for Internet connection.
Although I can open the Update page and select critical updates, they do not
download. They say they are but the downloading is very slow and never
finishes.
This problem only seems to have occured since connecting with the 3G network.
I do not receive any error codes.
Any help would be much appreciated thanks

Thanks for your help, I carried out the tweak and updates started to download
and be completed, although still slow. This was at about midnight.
I tried again at 9am the next day and was amazed at how quick the downloads
were. I am all up to date now.
I wonder also whether traffic is less on the 3G network first thing in the
morning which allows faster downloads.

Is this a DSL connection, Bob? If so, you'll find that your node can be
swamped at certain times of the day (e.g., 4 PM through Midnight or so)
because everyone else on your node is also downloading/uploading.
