Can NOT install UPDATES

i need some help. I am using a legit copy of Windows XP .. Recently my
computer froze, and would not load again. I got an error saying pageful in no
paged area, mentioning the partmgr.sys file. I couldn't get around it so i re
installed windows, by using the quick format etc. During my installation
there were numerous alerts saying such and such a file can not be located (on
the disk), which is strange because i have never had this problem when re
installing windows. I cant even run msconfig now as it cant find it..
anywyas, onto more pressing issues...

Ok so i skipped some files, yadda yada, and got windows working enough to
get things started, I installed a working version SP 2, then even downloaded
a redistributable verison of SP3 after the windows updater wouldn't
successfully install the new updates. I thought installing sp3 would solve
this, but still nothing is working. I installed MS frameworks, but yet
nothing.. I can not install any updates on my computer now, and i don't know
why! I cant get the validation tool to install or anything..

error message reads: following items coudl not be installed:
Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)
Update for Windows XP (KB898461)

Sounds like the XP CD is flawed. See if you can borrow another one just
like yours but use your product key.

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you perform a new Windows XP
installation or you repair a Windows XP installation
