Windows Update fails when Microsoft Update Switched on
Hello everyone,
I have just installed Vista Ultimate x86 on a clean harddrive of my old laptop and am migrating my old setup to it. I have hit a couple of Windows-Update related problems.
1)
Firstly, when I switch on Microsoft Update, Windows Update fails from then on with error code 8020044D. I have followed a couple of guides which suggest deleting SoftwareDepository in C:\Windows, salvaging the WMI Repository and running the AU Check utility. They run perfectly fine, but do not fix the problem.
The only thing I can do it so switch Microsoft Update off and update only Windows components.
2) For some reason Vista SP1 never comes up in the updates. WinVer shows that it is not installed. I have downloaded SP1 manually and tried to install it like that, but this fails with "Installation of Vista has failed" and not much other information.
The laptop has Conexant AC-link audio drivers: is this a concern? Does anyone have any idea where to get new ones should this be an issue (I am using the latest on the manufacturer's site).
Thanks!
