updates fail error 0x8024600A
I have Windows XP with automatic updates turned on however I vet each before
installing. On my automatic updates history I have 3 updates that are shown
as failed with error 0x8024600A. I have followed the various options on the
updates web page to get more information but I cannot find any help on this
error which leads me to post here. Here are the three updates in question:

1) windows XP SP3
I accepted the installation for SP3 but I cannot tell how far it got.
Under "ControlPanel/system" it says Windows XP SP2.

2) Internet Explorer 7
IE7 has installed and seems to work OK, "add and remove programs" reports
IE7 is installed.

3) windows verification tool
I declined to install and I don't care about it.

What does the error code mean?
Are WinXP and IE7 now up to date?
If not what should I do now?

David

It's often seen when one or more security applications (e.g., anti-virus;
anti-spyware; third-party firewall) are interfering with Windows Update.

> Are WinXP and IE7 now up to date?

If those are the only Unsuccessful installs listed AND Automatic Updates is
enabled & working properly, the machine's most likely fully patched...but
WinXP SP3 isn't install yet. (SP3 is not a critical security update.)

How to troubleshoot an unsuccessful installation of WinXP SP3
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950718

WinXP SP3 - Read all prerequisites for a successful installation
http://msmvps.com/blogs/harrywaldron...tallation.aspx

Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for
Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3), until 14 Apr-09. Chat and
e-mail support is available only in the United States and Canada. Go to
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...spx?gprid=1173 | select "Windows
XP" then select "Windows XP Service Pack 3"
