KB954478 KB953404 KB928366 automatic updates

Hi, I'm using XP Professional version 2002 with SP3, with Office 2003
Small Business.

There are three updates that won't install properly:

The .NET Framework (KB928366), according to the update history, is
forever being successfully installed, only to be installed yet again
everytime I shut down the computer (automatic updates).

Two security updates for Office 2003, (KB954478) and (KB953404) won't
install.

These things started occuring over a year ago after a period of not
using my computer for about a month (August 2007).

Are there solutions to these problems (in layman's terms) or is it time
to switch to a Mac?

Any advice anyone has would be greatly appreciated.
