Error code 0x80004002

A Windows XP SP2 machine gets error 0x80004002 for windows update after a
disk hardware failure and disk repair (no Windows XP repair installation,
because I can't tell which XP setup CD was used to install Windows XP). All
other programs exept windows update are running without any errors.

I already tried http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144 (both methods) with
no success.

from windowsupdate.log
FATAL: Failed to get session from datastore, error = 0x80004002
FATAL: Failed to Unserialize from data store, error = 0x80004002

any suggestions for me?

See if running Dial-a-Fix Tool resolves them:

For XP they are 2 o 3 solutions, here is two of them Dial-ª-Fix
Go ahead and download Dial-ª-Fix.

Scroll down about 2/3 of the way to Download Dial-ª-fix
Click the Double green checkmark and click Go.

After it has finished, Reboot

Try Windows Update and see if you can get your updates installed.

1. Error message when you try to install updates by using the Windows Update
or Microsoft Update Web site: "0x80004002":

2. Try installing WUAgent using the /wuforce flag; cf.

3. Download/run AURESET tool:
