Updating SP3

I have tried numerous times to update SP3 (using Windows XP) and I keep
getting error msg 0x8007005. I believe it has somethijng to do with the
registry but not sure how to fix. I have tried to research it but there
seems to be so many "fixes" I am not sure which one to use. Please help.

Boot the computer in safe mode with networking then download and install the
sp3

steps to boot the computer in safe mode with networking

Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a
computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you
can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.
2. Select an option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then
press ENTER.
3. When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode with
networking" appear in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you
want to start, and then press ENTER.

Download the sp3 from the following link and save it on the desktop
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Once the download is complete,close all the windows
Double click on the downloaded file and follow the instuctions

Hi Dave, what you have is "Access Denied" aka "0x80070005"

First, make sure that your anti virus software isn't locking the registry
and preventing the installer from modifying the same.

Error message when you try to install Windows XP Service Pack 3: "Access is
denied" or “Service Pack installation did not complete�
