The connectivity issue is directly related to the McAfee actively
monitoring the system when SP3 was installed.
Right after the rebooting of the system after SP3 was installed, is this:
> AutomaticUpdates Failure Software
> Synchronization Unable to Connect: Windows is unable to connect to the
> automatic updates service and therefore cannot download and install updates
> according to the set schedule. Windows will continue to try to establish a
> connection.
Suggest you uninstall XP SP3 from within Add/Remove Programs in the
Control Panel. Restart the system and see if connectivity is restored.
If not, you can try resetting the Winsock stack . If no joy, then you
may need to do a Repair Installation of XP to get connectivity back.
To restore the Winsock, open a Command Prompt from
Start > Run > type in cmd
Click OK or press Enter.
At the prompt, type in the following *exactly* as written, and press
Enter after *each* command.
netsh winsock reset
exit
Restart the system and see if connectivity has been restored.
